PreSeason 9/10/08
The 2008 version of the Pittsford Girls’ Swimming and Diving team took to the pool in mid-August to begin their training for the upcoming season. Led by senior co-captains, Meghan Green and Rachel House, the 6 time defending Class A Section V champions look forward to another successful season. Their season includes dual meets against other Section V teams, as well as traveling to compete in the New Hartford Invitational and also competing in the Empire State Invitational where they will face the top teams in NY State.
Members of this year’s S’Women include seniors Emily DiPaulo, Katie Dobler, Green, House, Emma Miller and Alex Trobe; juniors Madeline Ashworth, Jennifer Conklin and Sarah Dempsey; sophomores Erica Bryson, Erin Connolly, Danielle Phillips and Mallory Ward; and freshman Shannon Dempsey, Amanda House, Jennifer Proper and Danielle Proper.
The JV S’Women include juniors Katie Hart and Paige Hasebe; sophomores Emily Carroll, Kaelan Fennell, Emily Himes, Helaina Hummel, Lydia Hunt, Jenna Mattina, and Jamie Tyler; freshman Meagan Branch, Nina Daniels, Erin Gaffney, Olivia Gallagher, Isabella Joynt, Andrea Meyer, Laura Petishnok, Liz Piotrowski, Jenny Riley, Sydney Ryan, Briana Viera, Kala Wilkins and Genevieve Yaeger and eighth graders Anna Grazulis, Olivia Holodnik, Audrey Hunt, Elizabeth Maier and Mackenzie Ward.
Diving this year for the S’Women will be sophomores Carrie DeMoulin and Kelsey Telek.
The team boasts its traditional depth with 11 returning swimmers and divers who competed in the Sectional Championships last season. Of those, 8 had top 8 finishes in the championships (Conklin, Demoulin, Dempsey, Dobler, Green, R. House, Miller, Phillips and Trobe), 7 qualified for the state championship meet (Conklin, Dempsey, Dobler, Green, Miller, Phillips and Trobe), 3 were on a sectional championship relay team (Dempsey, Dobler and Phillips), 1 was an individual sectional champion (Green in the 500 yard freestyle), 3 were named All-American (Phillips in the 200 yard medley relay, and Dempsey and Dobler in the 400 yard freestyle relay).
Under the tutelage of varsity coach Marty Keating, JV coach Beth Dobberstein and diving coaches Laura Price and Mark McMann, the team will open its season against Irondequoit on Tuesday, September 9th, at the Mendon High School pool.
