Coach Marty Keating referred to his 35-year relationship with Pittsford Swimming as maintaining a finely tuned machine. You “add a little oil” and it keeps on running and running. The 2006 team was ranked 3rd in the nation among similar sized schools. And not only was it talented in the pool, but it was also smart. It’s cumulative GPA ranked it 1st in NY state and 2nd in the nation among other swim teams. This year’s team built on this base and out-scored last year’s team in NISCA power points; hopefully, improving its national ranking.
The team and families gathered one last time to celebrate the 2007 S’Women’s accomplishments. The Varsity S’Women won their 6th straight Section V Class A Championship along with an undefeated season. They had a NY State individual champion, 3 Class A Sectional individual champions, 2 Class A Sectional relay champions. They finished 3rd as a team in the NY State championship meet. They had 1 individual All-American and 1 All-American relay and 1 individual and 1 relay qualify for All-American consideration. They set 1 individual Section V record and 3 individual school records and 1 school relay record. Jenny Lewis broke her own Section V record and school record in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 55.18 seconds, just 3/100th of a second off the state record. She also broke her own school record in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 52.12 seconds. Kelley Groves broke the school record in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.32 seconds. Groves and Lewis teamed with Kathryn Dobler and Sarah Dempsey to set the school record in the 400 yard freestyle relay in 3:33.82 minutes.
Thirty-seven Varsity and JV S’Women qualified for the Section V Championships, 12 qualified for the State Team. Nine were named 1st team All-County and 4 were named to the 2nd team. They could claim the NY State Scholar Athlete as well a runner-up, the Section V Division I Swimmer of the Year and the Class A Section V Championship Swimmer of the Meet. The JV S’Women finished their 10th straight undefeated season. Quite a list of accomplishments.

Meghan Green and Rachel House were elected captains for the 2008 season. Looking forward to the coming years, Coach Keating acknowledged that the 11 departing seniors will be missed, but as has been the case over the recent past, there always seems to be talent to fill the vacant slots. He will continue to add a little oil, make some adjustments and the machine known as the S’Women will continue to roll on and on.
