The Pittsford Junior Varsity S’Women culminated their season at the Monroe County Coaches’ Invitational on October 27th. The format of this meet is interesting since, if a swimmer’s time in an event is a sectional championship qualifying time, they are “disqualified.” Thus, a large number of the Pittsford contestants found themselves “DQed.”
In the 200 yard medley relay, both Pittsford teams won their heats. Jennifer Proper, Amanda House, Erica Bryson and Emily DiPaulo took first place in their heat and the team of Riley, Mallory Ward, Kala Wilkins and Katie Hart touched first in theirs. Emily Himes won the 200 yard freestyle. Lydia Hunt finished 4th while J. Proper, Erin Connolly, Emily Carroll, Hart and Helaina Hummel were all “disqualified” for achieving sectional times. In the 200 yard individual medley, all Pittsford swimmers swam too fast. Danielle Proper, House and Wilkins achieved sectional championship times in this event. Kaelan Fennell finished 4th in the 50 yard freestyle. Catherine Tuttle was 6th, Ward 7th, Jenna Mattina 17th, Marie Cupo 22nd, Paige Hasebe 26th, Julie DeMaria 32nd and Kelly Miller 33rd. Shannon Dempsey, DiPaulo and Riley all were “DQed.”
Wilkins finished 2nd in the 100 yard butterfly. Bryson, J. Proper and Sydney Ryan swam too fast. In the 100 yard freestyle, Deniz Harland finished 2nd, Himes, 5th, Tuttle 7th, Mattina 18th, Marello 22nd, Cupo 28th, DeMaria 30th and Miller 32nd. DiPaulo and Connolly achieved sectional qualifying times. Hunt was 2nd in the 500 yard freestyle. D. Proper, Hart and Hummell were all disqualified for their fast performances. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Dempsey, Riley, Connolly and D. Proper won their heat and Harland, Ryan, Hunt and Fennell won theirs.
Hasebe finished 4th in the 100 yard backstroke. Bryson, Riley, Carroll and Fennell swam past the field and were disqualified. Ryan finished 2nd in the 100 yard breaststroke, Harland was 4th and House, Ward and Dempsey were “DQed.” In the 400 yard freestyle relay, the team of Dempsey, DiPaulo, J. Proper and Bryson won their heat and Hummell, Himes, Tuttle and Carroll won theirs.
The future of the Pittsford S’Women appears to be in good hands with the strong performances of the Junior Varsity swimmers.
