To say that the Pittsford S’Women are back in the swim of things doesn’t begin to describe their preseason workouts. The 53 swimmers and divers have not only been swimming and diving but running and exercising as they look forward to the 2006 swim season and the defense of their 4th straight Section V Class A Championship.
Led by senior captains Claire Geiser, Lindsay Wahl and Jessie Ward, the Varsity S’Women also look to defend their title as the top team in New York State based on NISCA power point rankings. Returning Section V champions include juniors Kelley Groves in the 50 yard freestyle and Jenny Lewis in the 100 yard backstroke, earning All-American honors and 100 yard freestyle. Lewis, Ward, junior Aly Criscuolo and Groves combined to win the 200 yard medley relay, also earning All-American honors. Returning swimmers who represented Pittsford on the state swim team include Wahl, junior Olvia Tylutki and sophomores Meghan Green, Emma Miller and Alex Trobe.
Other returning members of the S’Women who participated in last year’s sectional championships include seniors Geiser and Mandy Ellis, juniors Lindsay Matthews and Stephanie Ross, sophomores, Kathryn Dobler and Rachel House, and freshmen Jennifer Conklin and Sarah Dempsey. Rounding out the varsity roster are senior Karin Lee and junior Kelly Geary.
Diving for the S’Women this year will be returning sectional participants, juniors Rachel Delahunta and Morgan Neal, and freshman Katelyn Barclay along with returning junior Alana Biltucci and newcomer eighth grader Carrie DeMoulin.
Junior Varsity S’Women include senior Daniela Gaskie; juniors Maggie Craig, Grace Encherman, , Katherine Ross, Stephanie Ross and Bonita Sur; sophomores Maddie Ashworth, Theresa Ciaccio, Emily DiPaulo, Deniz Harland, Vicky Lagas, Julie Marello and Catherine Tuttle; freshmen Katie Hart, Paige Hasebe, Kelsey McManus, Katherine Valentine, Gina Verni and Hannah Ward; eighth graders Emily Carroll, Erin Connolly, Kaelen Fennell, Helaina Hummel, Lydia Hunt, Sara Lynge, Jenna Mattina, Danielle Phillips, Jaime Tyler and Mallory Ward; and seventh grader Emily Himes.
Familiar faces on the pool deck will be Varsity coach Marty Keating, Junior Varsity coach Beth Dobberstein and diving coach Laura Price. Mark McMann has joined the coaching staff as a diving coach.
The S’Women open their season on Thursday September 7th at 4:30 pm in the Mendon High School pool against Irondequoit.
