The Monroe County Coaches’ Invitational Meet, the championship meet for Junior Varsity swimmers, has a unique format. If a swimmer swims “too fast,” fast enough to qualify for the Section V championships, they are disqualified from the event. With that in mind, the Pittsford Junior Varsity swimmers put in excellent performances.
In the 200 yard medley relay, the team of Kelsey McManus, Danielle Phillips, Katherine Ross and Grace Encherman won their heat as did Kaelen Fennell, Mallory Ward, Katie Hart and Erin Connolly. Maddy Ashworth and Katie Hart achieved sectional cut times in the 200 yard freestyle. Theresa Ciaccio won the Division I heat and Katherine Valentine finished 20th. Bonita Sur finished 5th in the 200 yard individual medley while McManus, Phillips and Maggie Craig achieved Sectional times. Connolly won the 50 yard freestyle, Fennell was 6th, Lydia Hunt 10th, Catherine Tuttle 12th, Julie Marello 16th, Ward 18th, Emily Himes 21st, Helaina Hummell 25th, Jenna Mattina 34th and Gina Verni 47th. Emily DiPaulo qualified for Sectionals.
In the 100 yard butterfly, Tuttle finished 10th, Paige Hasebe 11th and McManus and Ross made Sectional cut times. Deniz Harland finished 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle. Connolly was 6th, Himes 18th, Marello 19th, Mattina 22nd, Valentine 24th and Verni 33rd. DiPaulo, Craig, Hart and Emily Carroll beat the Sectional qualifying mark. Hummel finished 4th in the 500 yard freestyle. Encherman, Hunt and Ciaccio made Sectional cuts. The 200 yard freestyle relay team of DiPaulo, Craig, Phillips and Ashworth won their heat. Harland, Carroll, Ciaccio and Hunt won their heat. Fennell finished 6th in the 100 yard backstroke with Hasebe in 10th. Ashworth, Encherman and Carroll met Sectional qualifying times.
Sur finished 4th in the 100 yard breaststroke. Ross, Phillips, Ward and Harland qualified for Sectionals. In the 400 yard freestyle relay, the team of DiPaulo, McManus, Ashworth and Encherman won their heat. Valentine, Sur, Tuttle and Hasebe placed 3rd in their heat.
The meet was the culmination of the junior varsity season. The JV S’Women finished yet another undefeated season under the tutelage of Coach Beth Dobberstein.
