The culmination of the Girls’ High School Swimming and Diving season took place at the Flickinger Pool in Buffalo on November 18th and 19th. The Section V swimmers and divers put in a strong showing but finished in second place only 2½ points behind a strong Section XI team led by Julia Smit who set 2 state and 1 national records.
Top finishers included Pittsford Sutherland senior Hailey Weniger who finished 3rd in the 200 yd freestyle. Sutherland sophomore Jenny Lewis finished 3rd in the 100 yd backstroke and Brighton’s Maggie Thomas, a junior, finished 5th in the 1 meter diving.
Pittsford’s 200 yd medley relay team of Lewis, junior Jessie Ward, sophomore Aly Criscuolo and sophomore Kelley Groves finished 4th. Pittsford junior Lindsay Wahl finished 23rd in the 200 yd freestyle. Groves was the fastest Section V 50 yd freestyler with a 24th place finish. Lewis topped the Section V field with a 12th place finish in the 100 yd freestyle. Weniger’s 12th place finish in the 500 yd freestyle was tops for the section.
Pittsford’s 200 yd freestyle relay team of Lewis, senior Jenna Arington, Groves and Weniger touched in 11th place. In the 100 yd backstroke, Brighton freshman Emily Swett finished in 13th place with Wahl in 23rd. Ward was 11th in the 100 yard breaststroke. Pittsford’s 400 yd freestyle relay team of Wahl, Arington, freshman Meghan Green and Weniger finished in 10th place.
Also competing at the State Championships were Pittsford senior Eliza Massie, junior Olivia Tylutki and freshmen Emma Miller and Alex Trobe.
