Pittsford Swimmers Earn New York
State Champion Honors
Nine Pittsford swimmers
traveled to Long Island, New York,
to compete in the NYSPHSAA swimming championship. Pittsford Seniors, Susan
Allen, Katie Harris, and Kate Wilson were joined by Juniors Courtney Brayman,
Libby Brush, and Stephie House, Sophomore Hailey Weniger, Freshman Lindsay
Wahl, and 8th grader Jenny Lewis.
Pittsford was one of ninety schools at the meet, and Section V was one
of eleven sections. For the dual meet
season, the Pittsford Swimming and Diving team earned the power point ranking
as the number one team in the State.
Pittsford’s depth continued to dominate at the State Meet, and the nine
Pittsford Swimmers concluded the meet earning first place, and the New York
State Champion title. Pittsford earned
234 points, second place team Fairport earned 188 points, and Section VI’s Orchard
Park placed 3rd with 174
points. The Pittsford swimmers also helped Section V win the meet, earning first
place section honors with 617 points. Section
VI placed 2nd, with a score of 542 points.
Pittsford’s top scorer was the 200 freestyle relay.
Swimmers Susan Allen, Stephie House, Hailey Weniger, and Kate Wilson combined
to swim to a first place win, touching out Orchard Park with a time of 1:38.35,
earning automatic All-American recognition.
The 200 medley relay team of Allen, Harris, Libby Brush, and Wilson swam
to a 4th place finish, ending the season with the 3rd
fastest time in New York State, 1:50.37, earning
All-American Consideration. The 400 freestyle
relay team of House, Brush, Courtney Brayman, and Weniger swam to a 4th
place finish, also earning All-American Consideration.
Top individual scorer for Pittsford was Weniger,
placing 4th in the 200 freestyle, with a time of 1:54.75, earning
All-American Consideration, and 11th in the 500 freestyle, earning a
season best time of 5:06.39.
Brush placed 17th in the 200 I.M. with a
time of 2:14.78, and 10th in the 100 fly with a time of 59.96. Teammate Brayman, placed 26th in
the 200 I.M. with a time of 2:16.82, and 15th in the 100 fly with a
time of 1:00.21.
Stephie House placed 12th in the 50 free
with a time of 24.92, and 7th in the 100 free with a time of
53.71. Wilson placed 14th in
the 50 free with a time of 25.00, and 9th in the 100 freestyle with
a time of 54.08 seconds.
Three Pittsford swimmers contested the 100
backstroke. Allen placed 12th
with a time of 1:00.42 seconds, Jenny Lewis placed 19th with a time
of 1:02.89, and Lindsay Wahl placed 24th with a time of 1:02. 99 seconds.
The Pittsford Swimmers were coached at the meet by
Head Coach Marty Keating, and Assistant Coach Beth Dobberstein. The Pittsford Swimming and Diving Team will
celebrate the end of banner season at a banquet on December 7th at the
Country Club of Rochester.
