Lady Panther Swimmers Participate in Johnson City Invitational

The Pittsford Lady Panther Swimmers traveled to Johnson City, New York, the weekend of September 28th-29th to participate in the New York State, "Swimmers Against Drugs and Violence Meet." The swim meet combined the topic of Drug and Violence Prevention with swim competition, and included a speaker from the Jenna Foundation, who sponsored legislation in 1995 pertaining to violence and drug use. Each athlete in order to participate in this meet, submitted an essay discussing how their athletic team membership affected their ability to remain drug and violence free. Six teams participated in the meet, with approximately 200 swimmers attending. Each team awarded two swimmers $50.00 saving bonds for their essay. Swimmers Ally Pink and Kate Wilson were awarded the saving bond certificates for Pittsford. Each girl attending received a T-shirt and swim cap to promote remaining drug and violence free.

In the athletic portion of the swim meet, the Lady Panthers dominated over the teams from Orchard Park, West Genesee, Washingtonville, Johnson City, and West Vestal. The 200 medley relay team of Allen, Harris, Weniger, and Wilson placed 3rd with a season best time. The team of Forbes, Katie House, Brayman, and Richardson placed 7th.

Weniger placed 2nd in the 200 free, with Freitag placing 7th, Jen Hazen 9th, Vaughan 10th, Richardson 11th, Skerker 12th. In the 200 IM Allen placed 5th, Katie House 6th, Stephie House 8th, Brayman 9th, Jaferian placed 13th, with Emily Wells placing 18th, Libby Brush 19th, and Erin Bankey 24th.

In the 50 free, Wilson tied for 6th place, Ally Pink placed 17th, Forbes placed 18th, Allison Kant plaed 27th, Sam Castronova placed 30th, Kelly Rowe placed 31st, and Kim Curry placed 40th. In the diving competition, Meredith Bircher placed 4th, Jesse Ambrogi Yanson placed 5th, and Nikki Rencis earned 9th place points. In the 100 fly, Stephie House placed 5th, Brayman 6th, Weniger 12th, Wells 13th, Harris 14th, Brush 15th, Prezzano 19th, Rowe 24th, and Rebecca Hazen 26th. In the 100 free, Wilson placed 4th, Richardson 14th and Rouzer 29th . In the long-distance 500 freestyle, Freitag placed 5th, Jen Hazen 6th, Vaughan 8th, Skerker 11th, and Erin Bankey 13th.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Stephie House, Allen, Weniger, and Wilson placed 5th, with the team of Harris, Richardson, Jen Hazen, and Jaferian placing 9th. In the 100 backstroke Allen placed 2nd, Jaferain 6th, Forbes 8th, Amanda Lang 14th, Lisa Prezzano 15th, Allison Kant 17th, and Ally Pink 19th. In the 100 breaststroke, House and Harris placed 2nd and 3rd, with Castronova 10th,Curry 12th, and Rebecca Hazen 14th. The 400 freestyle relay team of Steph House, Brayman, Katie House, and Jaferian placed 5th, with the team of Jen Hazen, Freitag, Prezzano, and Wells placing 6th.

In the last relay of the meet, the 300-yard freestyle Crescendo relay team of Forbes, Vaughan, Brush and Curry placed 1st, with the team of Pink, Bankey, Lang, and Kant placing 2nd.

Coaches Keating, Dobberstein, and Carey were pleased with the performances of all swimmers at this meet.
