Lady Panther Swimmers and Divers defeat Irondequoit in Season Opener

Bircher, Ambrogi-Yanson, and Rencis sweep Diving

The Pittsford Girl’s Swim Team showed strength in their first swim meet of the season, defeating Irondequoit 97 to 84 on Thursday, September 13, 2001. Swimming in the opening event, the 200 medley relay team of Susan Allen, Katie Harris, Courtney Brayman, and Monica Jaferian swam to a 1st place finish, with the teams of Hailey Weniger, Katie House, Lisa Prezzano, and Lindsay Richardson touching in at 3rd, and Liz Forbes, Kim Curry, Kelly Vaughan, and Pamela Hancock earning a 5th place finish.

In the 200 free event, Weniger placed 2nd with a personal best time of 203.69 seconds, with Co-Captain Jen Hazen touching in at 4th, and teammate Prezzano touching in at 6th place. In the 200 IM, the House sisters, Katie and Stephanie, posted second and 3rd place finishes, with Brayman earning 4th place

points.

The 50 freestyle sprint event was the second event the Panthers earned 1st place points in, as Kate Wilson touched in at 26.74 seconds. Teammates Forbes and Rouzer contributed their depth to the team with 4th and 5th place wins.

Diving was a sweep for the Lady Panthers, as Meredith Bircher placed 1st, Jesse Ambrogi-Yanson placed 2nd, and Niki Rencis placed 3rd. The 100 yard fly earned the Panthers 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place points as Stephanie House touched in at 2nd, Brayman 3rd, and Prezzano 4th. The 100 freestyle was the second individual event the Lady Panthers earned a 1st place finish in with Wilson earning a first place finish of 56.55 seconds. Brush earned a 4th place finish, with Richardson touching in at 6th place.

The long-distance event of the 500 freestyle was won by Emily Freitag, with Co-Captains Vaughan and Hazen touching in at 2nd and 4th. The 200 freestyle team of Co-Captain Monica Jaferian, Allen, Weniger, and Wilson swam to a 1st place finish, with the team of Hazen Freitag, Prezzano, and Harris placing 3rd. The team of Stephanie House, Brush, Curry, and Richardson placed 4th in the event. The 100 backstroke proved strong for Pittsford, as Allen touched in a 1st, Jaferian 3rd, and Weniger 4th. As the Lady Panthers led 97 to 72, the final two events of the meet were swum exhibition.

Swimming exhibition in the 100 breaststroke were Pittsford’s Katie Duo of Harris and House, along with Curry. Harris and House earned the fastest two times in the heat, with Curry posting the 5th fastest time. The 400 free relay teams of Wilson, Allen, Brayman, and Jaferian swimming exhibition earned the 2nd fastest time in the heat, with the team of Hazen, Freitag, Harris, and Forbes earning the 3rd fastest time, and the team of Kelly Rowe, Rouzer, Brush, and Stephanie House earned the 5th fastest time.

The meet concluded with Pittsford earning the win at 97 points to Irondequoit's 84 points. Pittsford will compete against Brockport at a home meet this Thursday, September 20th at Mendon High School.
