The Pittsford S’Women captured their sixth straight Class A Section V Championship on Friday, November 9th at the Webster Aquatic Center scoring 574.5 points over second place Fairport with 422. The common factor in these victories, as well as the many other accomplishments of Pittsford swim teams and individual swimmers over the past 35 years has been head coach Maurice “Marty” Keating. But ask him who deserves the credit and he readily tells you that it is the girls who show up for “preseason” every August and the incredible amount of time and effort that they devote to this sport. For the Pittsford S’Women, swimming is not a seasonal sport, it is a life style – a year round commitment to training – a commitment that once again paid off for the 23 swimmers and divers who competed at this year’s championships. Section V has been one of the most competitive sections in the state but the team once again rose to the challenge and every contestant qualified for the finals.
Jenny Lewis, finishing her fifth and final season, was named Section V Division I Swimmer of the Year as well as the Swimmer of the Meet for her outstanding performance. She was also voted first runner up for the Donna J. Mooney Award that is awarded to a swimmer based on character, sportsmanship and their commitment to the sport of swimming. In the pool, Lewis won the 100 yard backstroke, breaking her own Section V record in 55.18 seconds, just 3/100ths of a second off the New York State record. Her performance earned her automatic All-American honors. She also won the 100 yard freestyle in 52.12 seconds breaking her own school record in this event, earning All-American consideration. She was a member of the winning 200 yard medley relay which earned All-American consideration and the winning 400 yard freestyle relay that also earned automatic All-American status and broke the school record. In her 5 years as a member of the S’Women, she has qualified for the New York State championships in all 5 seasons, has been the Sectional Champion in the 100 yard backstroke for 4 years and in the 100 yard freestyle for 3 years. She has been a member of the winning 200 yard medley relay team for the past 4 years. She is a 7 time high school All-American and looks forward to defending her State Championship in the 100 yard backstroke.
Meghan Green reeled in her first Sectional Championship with a victory in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:05.85. Lewis combined with Danielle Phillips, Co-Captain Aly Criscuolo and Kelley Groves to win the 200 yard medley relay in an All-American consideration time of 1:49.76. The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Katie Dobler, Sarah Dempsey, Groves and Lewis also took top honors with an automatic All-American time of 3:33.82, breaking the current school record by 0.07 seconds.
In the 200 yard freestyle, Emma Miller finished second, Alex Trobe 4th, Jennifer Conklin 5th and Erica Bryson 13th.  The S’Women had a very strong showing in the 200 yard individual medley with Dempsey, Green and Rachel House finishing in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places. Criscuolo finished in 10th place. Groves sprinted to 2nd place in the 50 yard freestyle in an extremely tight race. Dobler finished 5th and Kelly Geary 10th.
Last week at the Section V diving championships, Morgan Neal finished in 2nd place with a score that qualified her for the state championships. Rachel Delahunta finished 3rd,  Carrie DeMoulin 5th and Alana Biltucci 8th.
The S’Women had another strong showing in the 100 yard butterfly  with Conklin, Dempsey, Criscuolo and Geary finishing  4th, 7th, 8th and 9th.  The S’Women’s depth was again evident in the 100 yard freestyle as Lewis touched first, with Groves close behind in  third and Dobler in 4th. Co-Captain Lindsay Matthews closed out her high school swimming career with a 13th place finish. The S’Women also dominated the awards stand in the 500 yard freestyle with Green, Miller, Trobe and Bryson taking 1st, 2nd, 4th and 9th places. The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Dobler, Dempsey, Conklin and Green finished in 2nd place.
Lewis won the 100 yard backstroke with teammate Olivia Tylutki touching in 3rd. Maddy Ashworth finished 12th and Kelsey McManus 14th.  Phillips was edged out in the 100 yard breaststroke finishing in 2nd. House finished 4th, Stephanie Ross 6th and Grace Encherman 10th. The S’Women closed out the meet with their victory in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
The season has not ended, though, for the 12 S’Women who will be competing in the NYSPHSAA Championships next weekend. Conklin, Criscuolo, Dempsey, Dobler, Green, Groves, Lewis, Miller, Neal, Phillips, Trobe, and Tylutki will travel to Long Island for the final meet of the season.
