Pittsford’s Swimming and Diving Depth Defeats Fairport 108-78

Lady Panthers Extend their Undefeated Season to 9-0

 

Last Thursday, the Pittsford Lady Panthers traveled across town to compete against the Fairport “She Sharks”.  Both teams were undefeated and the strongest teams in Monroe County.  Pittsford quickly proved to the swimming community that a strong team effort, and depth in every event, results in a solid victory.

 

In the first event Fairport’s 200-medley relay placed 1st, with Pittsford’s team of Susan Allen, Katie Harris, Libby Brush, and Kate Wilson touching in at 2nd with a season best time of 1:53.24.  The team of Jenny Lewis, Jessie Ward, Courtney Brayman, and Jenna Arington placed 3rd.  In the 200 yard freestyle, Hailey Weniger placed 1st, with a season best time of 1:59.41.  Lindsay Wahl earned 4th place points.  Entering the 200 IM contest, Pittsford trailed by 2 points.  At the conclusion of the 200 IM, Pittsford’s depth began to emerge, as Brush placed 2nd, Allen 3rd, and Brayman 4th.  The 200 IM garnered 9 points to Fairport's 1st place win of 6 points and the score was tied 23 to 23.  The 50 yard freestyle proved strong for Pittsford, as the swimmers easily took the lead 34 to 28 as Wilson touched in 1st, Stephie House 3rd, and Jenny Lewis 4th.  The Pittsford Divers followed suit, with Eliza Massie placing 1st with a season best score of 206.20.  Teammate Ashley Slaughter earned 5th place points with a score of 156.25.  Pittsford led by 6 points and Fairport was not able to match the strength and depth of the Lady Panthers.

 

After the diving portion of the meet, Brush, Brayamn and Emily wells placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the 100 fly, with Brush earning a best time of 1:00.17 and Brayman earning a season best time of 1:01.86.  The 100 free earned Pittsford 12 points to Fairport’s 4 points, as Stephie House placed 1st with a best time of 54.93 seconds, Wilson touched in 2nd, and Arington placed 4th.

 

In the long distance 500 freestyle Hailey Weniger placed 1st, with Harris placing 4th.  Pittsford lead by 16 points entering the 200 freestyle relay.  The team of House, Allen, Weniger, and Wilson placed 1st, with a season best time of 1:41.24 seconds.  The team of Wahl, Lewis, Arington, and Lisa Prezzano placed 3rd.  Entering the 100 backstroke, Pittsford’s lead was increased to 89 to 65 as Allen placed 2nd, Wahl, 3rd, and Lewis touching in at 4th place.  Excitement mounted as the 100-yard breaststroke began, as Pittsford fought hard to add points to the score, as a score of 96 or better ensures a win.  The score of 98 points was displayed on the scoreboard with the finish of Harris in 2nd place, Jessie Ward 3rd place, and Rebecca Hazen toughing in at 4th place.  The Pittsford fans were on their feet cheering the Lady Panthers, as the 400 freestyle relay teams of House, Brush, Brayman and Weniger placed 1st, with Wahl, Lindsay Richardson, Arington, and Harris earning the 3rd place win.  The team of Wells, Amanda Lang, Diana Newman, and Lauren Wilson had a strong showing in the 400 freestyle relay.

 

The Lady Panthers returned home victorious, extending their record to 9-0, remaining the undefeated Monroe County Team in the Class A Division. The Lady Panthers travels to Lockport this Saturday to compete in a non-league meet.
